Laura Jeffrey Academy (LJA), is a Twin Cities tuition free charter school offering a unique year round, girl-focused educational experience, grades five through eight. Students learn through rigorous study, by asking questions, solving problems, and participating in the community.

LJA's interdisciplinary learning and teaching model provides girls with the experiences and skills that result in academic and personal success - girls who are critical thinkers and leaders.

This year, our goal is to raise $25,000 to fill each of our classrooms with 2000 books, and to purchase technology to help our scholars gain digital literacy.  To date, we've raised $9,200.  Support LJA by donating books or $'s:

  • Save the date for LJA's Farmer's Market and Garden Gala!  The Garden Gala is an evening event on May 15th and the Farmer's Market will be on May 16th and 17th.  Sign up to help make these fun events happen!  
  • Join the Parenting T(w)eens Academy on Monday, April 14 from 5:00- 6:0 for a presentation by LJA's Margie Siggelkow entitled, "OMG My Middle Schooler Is So Stressed!  How Can I Relate to and Support My Child with Mindfulness?"  Margie will talk about Mindfulness and how it can help you and your student find some happiness and peace.  She will also give you some practical techniques and resources to help you on your journey of parenting a healthy and happy child.  There will be time for questions. Bring a dish to share and stay from 6:00-6:30 for a potluck dinner with LJA parents and staff members.  Then, stay for the PAC (Parent Action Committee) meeting from 6:30-8:00.
  • Our authorizer, Audubon Center of the Northwoods has just granted LJA a five-year charter renewal based on our strong six year history and a full year of review and evaluation.
  • Laura Jeffrey Academy is participating in the Technovation Challenge, a worldwide competition that inspires and enables girls to design and build mobile apps.  Stay tuned - competition results will be announced in early May.
