Laura Jeffrey Academy

"[Our 9th grader] and the other LJA girls who are at Central are doing so well and were so prepared for High School. She is getting A's in all accelerated classes.  This is to the credit of the wonderful education she got at LJA, and feel free to pass that on:)"

Laura Jeffrey Academy (LJA), is a Twin Cities tuition free charter school offering a unique extended year calendar, girl-focused educational experience, grades five through eight. Students learn through rigorous study, by asking questions, solving problems, and participating in the community.

  • Last year kicked off our technology campaign at the end of last year to bring 1:1 computer access to all students at LJA.   We raised enough $ for 1 full classroom set of computers.  This year, our goal is to raise $40,000 to complete this transition and allow curriculum to fully integrate technology with EVERY classroom.  Help us meet this goal by donating directly to LJA.  Your donation is tax deductible.
  • LJA is participating in GiveMN again this year.  You can find the link to our site here.
  • Julia Nichols was interviewed by Roshini on WCCO Radio, Sunday, September 28th.  She spoke about her experience working as a team to develop an app to take a STAND again sexual violence.  Thanks, Roshini and Technovation MN!  We're looking forward to this year's competition and will be more than prepared with our computer programming work already underway.  Listen to the podcast here.
  • Congratulations, Austen Harris (7th grader)!  Austen was the only student selected to meet Hilary Rodham Clinton, on July 20th during her book signing event at Common Good Books.   Austen was chosen after submitting a short essay on her love of books, political ventures, activities at LJA, and her involvement in her family's small business.  She also met Senator Franken, Mayor Coleman, and was interviewed by the Star Tribune.
  • Our authorizer, Audubon Center of the Northwoods has just granted LJA a five-year charter renewal based on our strong six year history and a full year of review and evaluation.
